Electric Vehicle manufacturers in India including Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors welcomed the time-based benchmarks and milestone for “Make in India” kept in qualifying for the incentives and subsidies in FAME 2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles). Under the FAME 2 incentives scheme government has mandated specific timelines for utilizing Made in India (major) components for Electric Vehicles. To this effect Maruti Suzuki has already invested large sums to set up the complete supply chain and also for setting up a battery manufacturing plant in Gujarat. Subsidies have also been announced for setting up Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.
