On 01st March 2019 the Central Government announced that it has cleared the FAME II (Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles Version II). Under the scheme the government has provided for Rs. 10, 000 crores for the next three years. Under the scheme the government plans to subsidize TEN lakh two wheeler, FIVE lakh three wheeler, Fifty-Five Thousand four wheeler and SEVEN thousand buses. Most of the subsidies are likely to be directed towards vehicles used for public transportation rather than personal vehicles. These subsidies would be available only to those vehicles powered by new technology batteries like Lithium Ion batteries.
