ONLY ELECTRIC VEHICLES AFTER 2030 - Niti Aayog and the newly elected government are once again totally clear in announcing that they are very serious about Electric Vehicles in India. A few days back Niti Aayog once again declared that ONLY ELECTRIC VEHICLES will be permitted to be registered after 2030. Earlier in the previous NDA government the minister in charge Nitin Gadkari too had mentioned the same thing in 2018. This time around the government has shown more intent by adding incentives and subsidy to those manufacturer’s who are / will manufacture electric vehicle batteries in India. The government is also proposing E Highways (as already in place in Europe) where not only will there be multiple Electric Vehicle charging stations available along the highway there are also likely to be overhead electric cables so that trucks and buses can use these electrified corridors for charging without stopping. The Mumbai Delhi expressway is likely to be the 1st on the list of this electrification. The smaller vehicle charging points on the highways will have both AC EV Charging stations and DC Fast Electric vehicle charging stations. It is encouraging to see the clarity with which the government is moving ahead on this front.
